Low vision can affect each person differently and requires individualized solutions. Our services can restore functioning after vision loss, allow you to live independently, and maintain quality of life. As part of our comprehensive approach, we offer Low Vision Rehabilitation and Orientation and Mobility services in the clients’ homes and in the community based on individual need.
Low Vision Rehabilitation
Occupational Therapists and Low Vision Therapists teach individuals with vision loss how to make the most of their remaining vision. This includes picking the right magnifier, learning to use a video magnifier, adjusting household lighting, high-marking appliances, and education in the use of writing aids, large button phones, remote controls, and much more. Rehabilitation sessions are designed with your goals in mind.
Orientation and Mobility
Losing your vision does not mean that you have to give up your ability to get around. Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialists enable individuals with vision loss to be independent by teaching them the skills and concepts to travel safely, and with confidence. Our O&M Specialists will work one-on-one to evaluate and set goals that match each individual’s specific needs which can take place in a variety of settings. Skills learned can include human guide, how to use a white cane, safely crossing streets, how to use public transit, and more.
